Rewiring OSH & Self-Responsibility

Special guest of the industry Mr Stuart Platt, Risk Management Consultant from SOS – Switched Onto Safety

Our safety and health regulations have skyrocketed! People’s attitude and expectations have shifted. But laws cannot replace what people have to do - taking Self-responsibility.

More than 30 years on, what are the pros and cons of OSH for the world? Dr Monika Nagel looks at these and other questions. Her presentation is about provoking guests to think whether it is timely to rewire this multidisciplinary regulatory body on safety, health and welfare. Monika forwards the assumption that the great achievements because of the OSH acts should not dismiss the fact that laws cannot replace what people have to do for themselves and should feel responsible to do.  This postulation clearly brings to mind the importance of knowing what is right, and whether restoring values in our societies may make many health and safety regulations redundant and would also greatly help to decrease horrendous disasters in the construction industry after completion.

Mr Platt will talk about his experiences on the job.

Stuart worked in the offshore commercial diving industry for 10 years (where Self-responsibility was extremely important) before progressing into project HSE management and then evolving into an external HSEQ auditor and risk management consultant with SOS-Switched Onto Safety. He has a unique insight to what issues we are currently facing.
