Club Partnerships

The Western Australian Club operates in partnership with two prominent and long standing Clubs – the Naval Military & Air Forces Club of Western Australia (Inc), and the Commercial Travellers’ Association.

Both these Clubs have their headquarters at our premises and have a strong membership base who benefit from joint membership with The Western Australian Club.

More recently, The Western Australian Club has established a long term association with Curtin University’s Business School and Graduate School of Business, forging a strong link between business graduates and the business community of this State.

The Commercial Travellers Association

At the end of June 1999 the Western Australian Club (WAClub) entered into a friendly alliance with the Commercial Travellers Association of Western Australia (CTAWA) a long time organisation that had earned much respect in this large State.

The beginnings of CTAWA stated in 1896, 115 years ago following births of similar organisations in the eastern states; first in South Australia in 1874, Victoria in 1881, followed in quick succession by New South Wales in 1883 and Queensland in 1884. Tasmania did not follow until 1900 and North Queensland in 1947.

Already in Perth the WA Club had been established in 1893 three years prior to the CTA but with the growing population and the CTA leaning towards giving service to the ‘man on the road’ there was to be no conflict of interest. Today there still exists a friendship that prevails between members of each group.

WHAT OR WHOM IS A COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER?
Of recent years this has become a FAQ as the travellers of yesteryear no longer exist. In essence the commercial traveller was the company salesman sent to call on customers in a designation area or zone or sometimes the whole of the state or territory. Our “Man on the Road” was an often used phrase, so well known it was the chosen title for the compiled 100 year history of the Association, published in 1996.

With the passing of time and the introduction of modern “IT” the “company man on the road” may no longer be considered necessary so members of the CTA are pleased to know their history is preserved with the alliance of their Association with the WA Club.

LENGTHY SERVICE
Members are proud of their long associations with the CTAWA, they maintain continuing membership well into their retirement keeping alive friendships that prevail with age. To boast 50 plus years may be considered the norm.

CHARITY ~ COTFUND
As far back as 1911 the CTA has been an avid supporter of Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH), initially providing funds each year for the purchase of a “cot”. This 100 year association means the CTA has certainly earned the title of “the longest standing benefactor to PMH”. Appreciated support still follows today but by way of diminished funds and will continue as long as there are active members.

In mid 2009 the CTA donated their 100 year old German-made Ronisch piano to PMH . This was done during the hospital’s 100 year celebrations, a time that also marked the 100th year of goodwill from the CTA and was supported by 100 year-old member Dick Stam.

The Naval, Military & Air Forces Club of Western Australia (Inc)

Naval Military and Air Forces Club

Established in 1906, as a social club for officers of the armed forces, the Naval, Military & Air Forces Club of Western Australia (Inc) (NMAFC) today continues its non-partisan, non-political, not-for-profit heritage of providing a congenial and enjoyable environment for its members and their guests, with many serving and retired officers holding membership.

Membership is also open to professional and business civilian men and women who have an affinity or significant interest in the armed forces and defence issues.

Social activities with a military emphasis are held throughout the year, including military briefings, member dinners, formal annual dinners, monthly luncheons, sundowners and special events.

The Naval, Military & Air Forces Club is governed by a committee elected by members and is based within the premises of the city’s foremost private members club, the Western Australian Club, in the heart of Perth’s central business district, at 101 St Georges Terrace (near the William Street intersection).

It should be noted that NMAFC members are required to become members of the Western Australian Club, (with deployable Australian Defence Force members paying a significantly reduced membership fee).

Benefits of membership of the Western Australian Club include access to exclusive fine dining and light meals, great coffee, a well-stocked bar, lounge and reading room, board room and function/entertainment facilities, locations for confidential meetings and free internet wi-fi, in the refurbished tropical-colonial style building.

In addition to being able to fully participate in regular Western Australian Club events, NMAFC members also have free access to the Cove Health Club in Paragon Arcade in the city, and in East Perth. Members also have free access to the Vines Resort and Country Club to play either the Ellenbrook Course or Lakes Course with up to three guests, (depending upon availability).

Through the Western Australian Club, NMAFC members also enjoy reciprocal visiting rights with more than 180 leading clubs throughout Australia and the world (many with accommodation rates substantially less than equivalent rooms at comparable hotels).

With its strong links to the military, the Western Australian Club and the business community, the Naval, Military and Air Forces Club provides a distinctive blend of tradition and contemporary relevance through which members can build and enjoy social and business relationships.

Our motto Hic comites deponimus arma translates as Here we companions lay down our arms.
